David de Gea expressed a whirlwind of "emotions and feelings" as he made his long-awaited return to football with Fiorentina after spending more than a year away from the game.
Following his departure from Manchester United, the Spanish goalkeeper remained a free agent until Fiorentina signed him in the summer. Although De Gea was initially kept on the bench during Fiorentina's opening Serie A match, he was given the opportunity to start in the UEFA Conference League qualifying match against Puskas Akademia.
Via his Instagram handle the former Manchester United goalkeeper shared this: "What a feeling to be back, incredible but with lots of emotions and feelings," he wrote on Instagram. "I want to thank my family, friends and supporters of Fiorentina for the reception and look forward to the upcoming season to see what we can achieve together."
The match at the Stadio Artemio Franchi began on a challenging note, with Fiorentina quickly falling two goals behind within the first 12 minutes against the Hungarian side.
However, the Italian team mounted an impressive comeback, taking a 3-2 lead. Unfortunately, De Gea conceded a late goal, resulting in a 3-3 draw.
Despite the disappointing outcome, De Gea took to social media afterward to share an emotional message, reflecting on the significance of his return to the pitch.
