The Premier League returns for match week 2 after giving fans a very mild opening weekend in week 1, however our predictions have this coming weekend sure to bring the firecracker that will leave some top sides burnt as the 2024/25 season kicks into full swing.
The weekend games begin with a very famous Red Devils team traveling from Manchester to the Amex stadium to battle the Seagulls on home turf.
Set to kick off at lunch time kickoff on Saturday the 24th, Brighton and Hove Albion and Manchester United are forced to initiate the weekend games and presumably set the stage for what is to come further down the line.
With the Red Devils starting the season on promising terms, the tie against a Brighton and Hove Albion stands a real test for Manchester United considering Brighton would be heading into the tie beaming with confidence. The Seagulls on opening weekend, ran rout against Everton on Merseyside, in a 0-3 trashing to leave the Toffees with some early season woes. But can they repeat same feat against Manchester United to create the first shock of the season? It will be an interesting narrative.
Odds are currently in favor of Manchester United to emerge victorious, however, same odds do not rule Brighton having a chance as well. In our premier league predictions, we for-see a draw playing out between the two teams when they face off. A 2-2 dramatic affair could be on play at Full time on Saturday.
Following that, comes Crystal Palace versus West Ham United, two sides who both lost their opening games. In our premier league predictions, we will give West Ham United the advantage, judging from their display against Aston Villa. A 0-2 win for the Hammers could ruin the Eagles' second weekend.
Fulham versus Leicester City will be more of a test for Leicester City as the game is a redemption for Fulham. The Foxes are returning to the league after spending the last year in the Championship, a result in this game can only send a message on what their goals are in the premier league. Pundits have already picked Leicester City to go straight back to the Championship but a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on opening weekend, can only inspire confidence.
We predict a 2-1 victory however for the home side, Fulham.
Manchester City versus Ipswich Town is an unfair fixture congestion for a newly promoted side who had the misfortune of facing Liverpool on opening weekend and then facing premier league bullies, the weekend after. This has a 4-0 rout written all over it against the Tractor Boys, with City comfortably winning on home turf.
Southampton versus Nottingham Forest seems very much a balanced game compared to Man City vs. Ipswich, despite Southampton being a promoted side and Forest, the premier league side in the last 3-seasons. This tie isn't going to get easy for either side, hence we can see the possibility of a shock result for Nottingham Forest or a draw. In our premier league predictions however, we see a 1-1 draw playing out at the Saint Mary's.
Tottenham Hotspur versus Everton has the narratives of a redemption for both sides whose match week 1 ended in a rather underwhelming fashion. Ange Postecoglou would want to start winning games and put to bed the slip up of last season, while Sean Dyche for the sake of his job at Goodison, will also clamor for all 3-points. That said, there is no way both sides can come out of the games with all 3-points. Hence, we predict a 2-1 win in favor of Tottenham Hotspur.
Aston Villa versus Arsenal is going to be the test for the Gunners and Mikel Arteta as they face a familiar nemesis in Unai Emery. With all the talks of Arsenal challenging for the premier league this season, our predictions for the season and of course this game, does not see the Gunners having the favor.
We predict a 2-1 win for Villa.
Sunday 25th August brings the weekend to its halt with Bournemouth and Newcastle United taking the stage at 2 pm kickoff alongside Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea. We predict a 0-2 win for Newcastle and a 1-3 win for Chelsea at the Molineux.
Liverpool versus Brentford rounds up the weekend premier league games and our predictions has the Reds facing a tough afternoon. However, we see a slight 2-1 win for the Reds.
