Paul Scholes reveals the player he wants Man Utd to sign instead of Manuel Ugarte

Ilkay Gundogan's name continues to evoke strong emotions among Manchester United fans, especially after his crucial performances against them in recent years, according to UnitedinFocus.

Just a year after his brace, aided by a David de Gea error in the 2023 FA Cup final, the former Manchester City star is reportedly set for a surprising return to English football.

Sky Sports reports that Gundogan, now 33, is back in England and may be on the verge of rejoining Manchester City.

This comes after a lackluster season with Barcelona, where the German international left on a free transfer.

While this move is unexpected, it has sparked debates, particularly among Manchester United faithful, about whether their club missed an opportunity.

Paul Scholes, a legendary figure at United, has expressed his thoughts on the matter. He believes that Manchester United could have benefited from a player like Gundogan, someone with the ability to control the tempo in midfield.

"(Man United need) a (Martin) Zubimendi or - I'm gonna say - Gundogan. A controlling midfield player to take the sting out. I am going to say Gundogan," Scholes said

However, the idea of Gundogan donning a Manchester United shirt was always unlikely.

The club has focused on younger talent and potential, rather than experienced players like Gundogan.

His history with Manchester City also likely played a role in United's decision to look elsewhere.

Instead, United has turned its attention to 22-year-old Manuel Ugarte, currently at Paris Saint-Germain. Ugarte, valued at £51 million, is seen as the future of United's midfield.

According to Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between United and PSG are in the final stages, with Ugarte close to securing his dream move to Old Trafford.
