The Atletico Madrid forward produced a series of impressive performances while playing in the Portuguese outfit in the Youth League before debuting for the senior team.
He became a top target for several European clubs following his brilliant exploits in the 2018-2019 campaign.
He bagged 20 goals and 11 assists in 43 appearances across competitions for Benfica that season.
Madridxtra on X, statesd that Guti revealed he recommended the player to Real Madrid shortly before Ronaldo left for Juventus in the summer of 2018.
"I told Real Madrid to keep track of Joao Felix in 2017. He was ridiculous in Youth League, he was destroying everyone," he said.
