'Victor Boniface Under Investigation In Germany'

The German Football Association has begun an investigation into the behaviour of Super Eagles forward, Victor Boniface during Bayer Leverkusen's Super Cup victory over VfB Stuttgart.

German outlet, Weltfussball claimed that Victor Boniface made an offensive gesture towards opposing players by showing them his outstretched left middle finger as he ran past them after the final whistle.

During the game, the 23-year-old Nigerian striker opened the scoring in the 11th minute before being substituted for tactical reasons after his teammate Martin Terrier received a red card in the first half. Bayer Leverkusen ended up winning the trophy via penalties.

Despite the centre referee, Tobias Stieler, stating that he did not witness the alleged gesture, the DFB's control committee has decided to pursue an investigation into the incident.

Even though there is no conclusive evidence or TV footage to confirm the alleged incident, players from VfB Stuttgart remain firm in their claims that the Super Eagles striker was indeed offensive with his gesture.

In addition to this, Boniface was also shown a yellow card in the 80th minute for dissent while he was on the bench, following a VAR decision that went against his team.

At the time of writing, it was not clear what his punishment would be if found guilty of making an offensive gesture towards Stuttgart's players.

Note that Victor Boniface has been crucial to Bayer Leverkusen's recent successes, playing a pivotal role in their double-cup triumph last season. The Nigerian forward scored 21 goals and provided 10 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.

Boniface was also awarded the Rookie of the Year title last season, marking a remarkable debut campaign in the German top flight, which culminated in Bayer Leverkusen clinching their first-ever Bundesliga title.
