AMAZON founder Jeff Bezos could be eyeing on buying the Boston Celtics.
The 60-year-old Bezos had previously attempted to purchase the Washington Commanders before losing out to a group led by Josh Harris.
Two weeks after winning the 2023-24 NBA title, Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck announced plans to sell the team.
On Monday, The Ringer founder and sportswriter Bill Simmons said on his podcast that Bezos could be "among the suitors" to buy the Celtics.
"In the last few days there's been some I think legitimate buzz about Jeff Bezos buying the Celtics, and I think it's real. I think he's gonna be one of the suitors," Simmons said.
"Which got me thinking, why would Jeff Bezos, when he's looking at the Celtics, what is he seeing? What does he want?
"I think the only way it makes sense - I mean, granted, he has a gajillion dollars - but it's one of the crown-jewel franchises.
"That's why you get it. To him it'd be no different than if he bought this famous, gigantic, $300 million yacht.
"But I think it's real that he's potentially in the mix for this."
Simmons also revealed that the NBA wants the Celtics sell price to be $6 billion.
The 54-year-old added that the league wants the $6 billion price tag to be the same number in expansion fees for each expansion team in the future.
Simmons mentioned the cities of Seattle, Las Vegas and Mexico City as expansion options.
In February, Bezos hired investment firm Allen & Company to evaluate a potential bid for Commanders.
The New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia 76ers owner Harris purchased the NFL team for $6.05 billion.
Bezos has a net worth of $195.7 billion.
He stepped away as Amazon CEO in 2021.
The Celtics ownership announcement of their intentions to sell the team comes after signing Jayson Tatum to a five-year, $314 million contract - the largest deal in NBA history.
Boston has the expectation that the sale of the majority of the team will happen this year or early 2025 and the full sale will take place in 2028.
It was reported last month by the New York Post that Fenway Sports Group, which owns the Boston Red Sox, has an interest in buying the NBA franchise.
Celtics minority owner Steve Pagliuca will bid to become the team's majority owner.
