Lamine Yamal could feature in multiple positions this season, as Flick rolls out his plan for the Spain international.
Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has provided some insight into how he plans on deploying youngster Lamine Yamal this campaign.
The 17-year-old's exceptional summer raised the hopes of many Barcelona fans for their 2024/25 season. He was billed to champion their ambitions this season, and Flick has now described some of the ways he plans on utilising the youngster's talents.
What Flick said
The German manager named Yamal from the start in the league opener against Valencia. The La Masia graduate shone as expected and registered a direct goal involvement when he assisted Lewandowski for his equaliser in the 2-1 victory over Los Che last night.
Speaking after the game, Flick spoke glowingly about Yamal, not hesitating to tag him a great player, despite his young age.
"He is a fantastic player," Flick said, per Goal. "I was not surprised that he was applauded at the mestalla. He is a great player and everyone likes a player like that. And therefore, it is normal to be applauded."
He also added that he plans on deploying the Spaniard in multiple positions and has said he can use him and Raphinha on the wings and in the midfield.
"They can play in several positions and at the moment, it is necessary to have these solutions. We are focused on next week. It will be a tough match but it is good to have three points to go to the next level."
Meanwhile, Yamal continues to reach record milestones in record time. His 10 involvements (five goals, five assists) in 38 LaLiga appearances is behind only Bojan Krkic's 13 (10 goals, three assists) and Ansu Fati's 12 (11 goals, one assist) among teenagers before turning 18 in the Spanish top flight in the 21st century.
