The Red Devils have a new shirt sponsor for the 2024/25 season. We explain exactly what Snapdragon is
The Premier League is back for the 2024/25 season and it's kicking off on Friday 16th August with Manchester United hosting Fulham at Old Trafford. When the squads walk out onto the turf, you may notice that the Red Devils have a new shirt sponsor this season. Gone is TeamViewer, the software firm that replaced Chevrolet in 2021.
Now Man United have shirts adorned with Snapdragon - but what is Snapdragon?
If you're not familiar with the name, you might be surprised to learn that you or someone you know has a closer relationship with Snapdragon than you might think.
Snapdragon is a brand of processors manufactured for use in smartphones by the US technology company Qualcomm. Based in San Diego, California, Qualcomm was founded in 1985 and has grown to be one of the world's leading supplier of mobile processors - also known as chips - to smartphone manufacturers.
Manchester United announced a minimum three-year deal with Qualcomm to have Snapdragon as the men's and women's teams' shirt sponsor back in September 2023, but it was confirmed this week that the agreement has been extended to 2029.
There is a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor inside millions of phones worldwide, potentially even the phone in your pocket or the one you're reading this on now.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, OnePlus 12, Honor Magic 6 Pro and Xiaomi 14 Ultra, all phones that the tech desk at Express.co.uk has reviewed recently, all have Snapdragon processors inside.
In the UK it tends to be pricier Android phones that use Snapdragon, but most Samsung phones in the US have the chips nestled inside.
The Snapdragon brand is also used for some PCs, such as the latest Microsoft Surface Laptop and Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge.
Before it was associated with mobile phone processors, snapdragons were (and remain!) a type of plant, also known as dragon flowers.
As well as the Snapdragon name, the United shirts also have the Snapdragon circular logo on them.
If you've got one of the shirts ready for the new season, there's even some hidden tech for you to enjoy. You can scan the logo on the front of any of this season's home, away or third shirts like a QR code to unlock an exclusive augmented reality (AR) experience on yoru phone or tablet.
You'll be able to learn more about the partnership between Manchester United and Qualcomm as well as watch videos as though you were standing on the Old Trafford pitch.

We can't wait to see the Snapdragon name proudly worn by some of the best athletes in the world."
