She is free to dump Nigeria-AFN blasts Favour Ofili for her behaviour

AFN have taken a dig at Favour Ofili after rumours circulated that she might dump Nigeria after a disappointing outing in Paris.

Ofili and AFN fell out after her name was left off the list presented by the federation for the women's 100m race event.

Although the AFN insisted it was innocent and that Ofili was only registered for the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relays, the athlete believes the organisation bears some of the blame.

In light of the issue between Ofili and the AFN, the athlete is reportedly looking to leave Team Nigeria for another country.

AFN response

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) claims to have qualified athletes on hand to take Favour Ofili's place should she decide to leave Nigeria and join another nation.

AFN representative told The Guardian that the federation will not prevent Ofili from carrying out her purported plan.

He said, "If truly Ofili is considering switching her allegiance from Nigeria to another country, it might be difficult for the AFN to prevent her.

"But Ofili must know some of the technicalities involved in such move because World Athletics' rules state that for an athlete to be eligible to compete for another country, he/she must stay away from any athletics competition for a period of three years. It means Ofili will not compete in any athletics event between now and late 2027."

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria are not concerned with Ofili leaving Nigeria for another country and have insisted that she is free to leave if she wants.
