Amrabat saga takes intriguing twist as Man United update squad information

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United announced on Tuesday evening the signing of centre-back Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich, assigning him the No. 4 shirt for the upcoming Premier League season.

De Ligt becomes United's third acquisition of the summer transfer window, shortly followed by Noussair Mazraoui, who also joined from Bayern. Mazraoui has been given the No. 3 shirt.

Both players have been added to the first-team squad page on United's website with their respective kit numbers. However, Morocco international Mazraoui struggled to secure a regular spot in Erik ten Hag's plans, and his loan deal officially ended on June 30 without the option being exercised.

Despite more than six weeks passing, Amrabat's profile remains on the first-team section of the website. Following De Ligt's arrival, the website has updated Amrabat's profile by removing '4' from above his name rather than deleting his profile altogether, as he has returned to Fiorentina. Amrabat is still featured in the club's home kit for this season, even though it was released after his loan ended. The Manchester Evening News reported last week that these photos were taken before his loan expired.

After Manchester United's FA Cup final victory over Manchester City in May, Amrabat expressed a desire to stay with the club, stating: "Do I already know what I'm going to do next year? No. We are going to talk. Staying is certainly an option. Look, I think it has been a very difficult season. For Manchester United it needs to be much better, and also for me personally."

United is still looking to add a holding midfielder before the transfer window closes later this month, and re-signing Amrabat remains a potential option.
