According to report, Jamilu Aliyu highlighted the harsh economic reality faced by Nigerians. He emphasized that the widespread hardship is undeniable, citing the dwindling value of the naira as a prime example. "Today, if you go to the market with one million naira, you would be appalled at what it can buy," he said.
Aliyu stressed that the same market is used by everyone, including politicians, national assembly members, and civil servants. However, the incomes of these individuals vastly differ from those of the average citizen. He pointed out the stark contrast between the haves and have-nots, emphasizing that this disparity is unacceptable to the people.
In his own words, "Nobody can tell you that the hardship we are talking about is not real. Today, go to market with one million naira, you would be annoyed at what it can buy. The same market we are using is the same market the politicians are using. The same market the national assembly members are using is the same market the civil servants are using. We are going to buy the same commodity but unfortunately, the incomes are not the same. You think that all is well, and that people can live peacefully? No. That cannot be accepted by the citizens."
Aliyu's statement resonates with many Nigerians who are struggling to make ends meet. The country's economic woes have led to increased poverty, inflation, and unemployment. The value of the naira has plummeted, making it difficult for people to afford basic necessities.
