Pedro Neto's favourite position explained ahead of Chelsea transfer

According to Football.london, Chelsea has been pursuing a winger since the start of the summer transfer window, with interest in Michael Olise and Nico Williams. The club is now close to securing their target.

Chelsea has agreed to a deal worth £51 million, plus an additional £2.5 million in add-ons, with Wolves for Pedro Neto, according to football.london. Subject to a medical, Neto is set to become Chelsea's most expensive signing of the summer so far.

This summer, Chelsea's recruitment strategy has focused on players versatile in multiple positions. For instance, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall can operate in various midfield roles, while Renato Veiga is adaptable as a centre-back, left-back, or defensive midfielder.

Neto aligns with this approach. Primarily a right winger, he has also played on the left side for Wolves. Neto himself is indifferent to his position on the pitch, as long as he is playing.

"When I'm on the left I would be more vertical, but on the right I have more options: bringing the ball to the middle or going outside," Neto told the Telegraph last year. "I always say that if I'm running on the pitch I am happy! I will play in any position. I don't feel any difference."

Chelsea aims to finalize Neto's signing before the Premier League opener against Manchester City next weekend. Neto could be part of the squad for that match and might return to Molineux a week later to face his former club.

Neto made a late appearance in Wolves' pre-season friendly win against RB Leipzig on August 4, marking his first pre-season game after returning from his Euro 2024 duties with Portugal.
