Super Eagles of Nigeria striker, Victor Osimhen, will be absent in Napoli's Coppa Italia first-round match against Modena at 8:15 p.m. later today, August 10.
The future of Victor Osimhen at Napoli remains uncertain due to intense transfer speculation. Despite earning £325,000 per week at Napoli, Osimhen has been following an individual training plan at the club's sports center and has not participated in any pre-season friendlies this summer.
In December, Osimhen signed a new contract with Napoli that includes a €130 million release clause.
However, none of his suitors are willing to trigger this clause. Paris Saint-Germain, one of Osimhen's serious suitors, has yet to offer more than €100 million for the 25-year-old Nigeria international.
Chelsea attempted to include Osimhen in a deal involving Romelu Lukaku, but the Nigerian striker refused a loan move to Stamford Bridge. Osimhen also refuses to take a pay cut to secure a move to Chelsea.
This has left Osimhen with limited options. According to reports in Italy, he is waiting for a renewed offer from PSG or a serious proposal from Saudi Arabia.
Recall that Victor Osimhen joined Napoli in 2020 from Lille for a club-record fee worth over €70 million. Since then, he has been the club's talisman. His contract with the Italian side will expire on June 30, 2026.
