A video of the federal highway linking Kano to Maiduguri, cut off by a severe flood and leaving motorists and residents stranded as they search for alternative routes, has stirred emotions online.
The intense flooding, which occurred on August 9, created a massive crater in the middle of the road, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.
During an on-site inspection, Bauchi State Governor Bala Muhammad emphasized the road's importance as a critical conduit between Nigeria's Northwest and Northeast regions.
Governor Muhammad expressed concern over the severe damage, highlighting that the dual carriageways on the Northeast highway have been entirely washed out.
In a statement to journalists, Governor Muhammad appealed to the Federal Government for urgent intervention.
"This is a major highway, the Northeast highway, and the dual carriageways have been completely washed away. We are calling on the federal government to assist. We will report this issue to Abuja through the Controller of Works. If they are unable to address the problem, we will take action to implement remedial or permanent measures, as we did during the last rainy season.'' he said.
