2027: It's the turn of southeast to produce next president - Opposition party declares

The Allied Conservative Congress (ACC) has advocated for a presidency from the southeast in the 2027 general elections, arguing that it would enhance national unity.

The call was made by the party's Chairman, Olusegun Peters, during the inauguration of the Abia State executives in Umuahia.

Represented by the ACC National Vice Chairman, Northwest, Ibrahim Abdullahi, Peters lamented that the Southeast region has not yet produced a Nigerian president since the assassination of former Head of State, Gen. Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, on July 29, 1966.

He noted that since the return to democracy 25 years ago, no Igbo individual has held the presidency, while the North and South-West have each held the office twice.

The ACC Chairman stressed that the party is committed to equity and aims to support the equitable distribution of power among Nigeria's three major tribes: Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba.

Abdullahi praised the industrious nature of the Igbo people, expressing optimism that the country's current economic challenges could be addressed through their ingenuity.

During the inauguration, Peters urged the newly appointed Abia State executives to work with unity and purpose, emphasizing that the ACC is dedicated to the welfare of all Nigerians, regardless of religious, ethnic, or educational background.

National Vice Chairman, North-Central, Hon. Illya Juan, National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Abubakar Sadiq, and National Vice Chairman, South-East, Vincent Eberechukwu, all extended their congratulations to the new executives, expressing confidence that they would lead the party to success in upcoming elections.

Acting State Chairman of ACC, Onyekachi Uwalaka, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in the new state executive.

He promised to focus on repositioning the party to secure governorship and legislative seats in Abia State in the 2027 elections.

The newly inaugurated executives include State Vice Chairman, Dr Jiwuba Peter, and Party Secretary, Dr Innocent Ikoro, among other principal officers.
