Fabrizio Romano says top European club have walked away from move to sign Manchester United star

The biggest surprise of Manchester United's summer was the rapid coup to sign Leny Yoro in mid-July.

A subsequent spending spree has not materialised, with United needing to sell to buy. And this has not been helped by the second biggest surprise of the club's summer; Jadon Sancho rejoining the Red Devils first team.

The sight of Jadon Sancho wearing the Manchester United shirt in the win over Rangers last month was a sight nobody expected to see again, following his bust-up with Erik ten Hag 10 months earlier.

There has been a little uncertainty over the situation, whether Sancho is 'fully back' or whether it is an uneasy truce and a prelude to a pre-deadline day sale.

Jadon Sancho latest transfer status

There has been speculation in the background that Jadon Sancho could yet be sold. Playing for United simply keeps his transfer value alive.

Footmercato reported last month there is interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus. The Mail reported in early July that Juventus were 'determined' to sign the winger.

Now, Juventus' interest is dead in the water, Fabrizio Romano explains, and also believes PSG's intrigue never developed beyond initial contact.

Romano told The United Stand on YouTube: "Juventus were among the clubs really interested in Jadon Sancho, they are no longer in the race, they are looking at different options. Borussia Dortmund consider this deal too expensive.

"PSG have an interest, yes they spoke to the agents of the player, they never reached out to Manchester United to make a proposal or open a negotiation."

He adds that the case of Sancho is not completely closed, but it would take a substantial offer to tempt United.

He said: "I think the situation of Sancho is still open. Now it is different, the player is integrated into the group, they want an important proposal to let Sancho go. I think it's still something around "40 to £45 million in that region. It depends on the opportunity."

Sancho could start the season

Jadon Sancho could end up starting the season for Manchester United. He has been playing up front, leading the line after Rasmus Hojlund's injury.

Erik ten Hag admits it is a contest between Sancho and new signing Joshua Zirkzee, who only began his pre-season last week.

Sancho may have the advantage for the Community Shield, due to the game time he has had in pre-season, where he can try and make his case for the Premier League opener.
