Forgotten Super Eagles midfielder Peter Etebo has completed a transfer to Turkey second division club Genclerbirligi.
Etebo's career has nosedived in years. The midfielder looked like the brightest young star in Nigeria after his heroics with Nigeria's under-23 team at the 2015 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations where he scored five goals.
That performance catalyzed his move to Europe after some years with Nigerian league side Warri Wolves. Etebo played at Feirense in January 2018. And by June, he had already sealed a transfer to Stoke City.
Unfortunately for the combative 28-year-old midfielder, he did not enjoy enough game time and had to go on different loan spells at Stoke City, Getafe, Galatasaray, Watford, and Aris Saloniki before his contract expired in 2023.
However, since Etebo's contract at Stoke City expired, he has been without a club. But that has now changed.
Turkish second division club Genclerbirligi officially announced that Etebo had signed a two-year contract with them.
The Super Eagles star becomes the tenth Nigerian player to sign for Genclerbirligi. And he will be looking to help their bid to gain promotion to the Super Lig by the end of next season.
Etebo made his Super Eagles debut in 2013 and was an important member of the team until Wilfred Ndidi came into the fray.
The new Genclerbirligi made 45 appearances for Nigeria, but he has not played for the Super Eagles since 2022.
