The campaign for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has gained momentum with a recent visit by South East traditional rulers and archbishops to his detention facility.
Kanu's lead counsel, Aloy Ejimako, confirmed the visit by Newsmen, noting that it was orchestrated by the region's governors who have been negotiating with the Federal Government for Kanu's release.
Ejimako explained that the purpose of the meeting was to persuade Kanu to accept the stringent conditions proposed by the Federal Government for his release.
The emissaries plan to brief the state governors of the South East on the outcomes of their discussion with Kanu in the coming days.
The governors are expected to subsequently meet with President Bola Tinubu to present Kanu's stance as conveyed by the emissaries, with the hope of reaching a consensus for his release.
The delegation, which operates under the leadership of His Royal Majesty Dr. Nnaemeka Achebe (Obi of Onitsha), will relay Kanu's responses to the South East governors.
Following this, a meeting between President Tinubu and the South East governors is anticipated.
