Former President Donald Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago estate on July 26, 2024, where Trump warned that a potential victory for Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming 2024 presidential election could trigger global conflict according to Fox News
Trump claimed that if Harris succeeds President Joe Biden, who has announced he will not seek re-election, the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict could escalate into a broader regional war, potentially leading to a third World War.
"We'll see how it goes. But if it all works out, if we win, it'll be very simple. It's all going to work out. And very quickly," Trump said. "If we don't, you're going to end up with major wars in the Middle East. And maybe a third World War. You are closer to a third World War right now than at any time since the Second World War. We've never been so close because we have incompetent people running the country."
Netanyahu, who traveled to Mar-a-Lago after meetings with Biden and Harris in Washington, presented Trump with a photograph of one of the Bibas toddlers, a group of children still held captive by Hamas. The image was reportedly provided to Netanyahu by the toddlers' grandfather, highlighting the dire situation in Gaza. "Wow, that's very moving," Trump said upon receiving the photograph. "We'll get that taken care of."
The meeting between Trump and Netanyahu marked their first face-to-face encounter since Trump left office in 2020. Their relationship had been strained after Netanyahu congratulated Biden on his 2020 election victory, which led to Trump's public criticism. "I haven't spoken to him since," Trump said at the time. "F--- him."
Now, Netanyahu seeks to strengthen ties with Trump as he aims to secure U.S. support for Israel's ongoing conflict with Hamas. Protests against Netanyahu's visit, including anti-Israel demonstrations, took place in Florida and Washington, reflecting the contentious nature of the current Middle East situation.
