Liverpool transfer news: Slot targeting Boniface's Leverkusen teammate in triple Bundesliga raid

The Dutchman has reportedly set his sights on three Bundesliga players to add quality and quantity to his side.

Liverpool's new manager Arne Slot is reportedly interested in three Bundesliga players to add to the Reds squad this summer.

Why are Liverpool keen on adding to their squad?

Since Slot's appointment in June, Liverpool have seen the exits of Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Adrian, while Calvin Ramsay has been loaned to Wigan Athletic, with the retirement of Thiago and departure of Matip creating a need for reinforcements in defence and central midfield.

The managerial change at Anfield which saw Slot replace Klopp on Merseyside has brought about transfer links to several players across Europe but Slot seems to have his sights set on Germany's top league.

Kimmich, Frimpong and Malen on Slot's Bundesliga shortlist

According to German outlet Bild, Liverpool are interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong and Borussia Dortmund attacker Donyell Malen. All three players recently featured at Euro 2024, with Kimmich for host nation Germany and Frimpong and Malen for the Netherlands.

Kimmich, a versatile 29-year-old who can play in midfield or at right-back, is entering the final year of his contract at Bayern Munich and could be seeking a new challenge.  However, they could face stiff competition for his signature with Manchester City, Manchester United and Barcelona also reportedly interested.

Frimpong was part of the Leverkusen squad that reigned supreme in the Bundesliga for the first time in the club's history, racking 14 goals and 12 assists in 47 games in all competitions as Leverkusen also claimed the DFB-Pokal under Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen.

Reports suggest Slot has already contacted Frimpong regarding a move to Anfield, but Leverkusen are likely to command a significant fee (around £34 million) for their asset.

Malen, a versatile 25-year-old forward with a decent record of 34 goals and 19 assists in 111 games for Dortmund, could be another potential arrival. He previously spent time in Arsenal's academy and has openly expressed his desire to play in the Premier League someday.

What comes next?

It remains to be seen if Slot's reported pursuit is successful, as Liverpool are yet to complete any transfer at the time of writing.

The Reds are back in pre-season training in preparation for their Premier League start against newly promoted Ipswich Town on August 17.
