Veteran Yoruba movie actor, PA James, has sparked controversy with his recent comments on polygamy, stating that men who marry only one wife are "suffering" and that having multiple wives is the "best decision" for men.
In an interview with Biola Adebayo on the program Talk-To-B, James argued that having multiple wives is beneficial for men, saying, "It is not a must that a man marry one wife. Men with one wife are suffering because having multiple wives is the best decision for men."
James further explained that having multiple wives would lead to a competition among them to please their husband, saying, "If a man has more than one wife, they will try all their best to do everything that pleases him because they will want to be his favorite. When one of them isn't having good behavior, the other will want to take advantage so that they will win the man over."
However, James's comments have been met with criticism from many who argue that polygamy is a complex issue that cannot be reduced to simplistic statements. Others have also pointed out that James's comments may be seen as disrespectful to women and perpetuate harmful gender stereotypes.
