The North Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has issued a warning regarding plans by certain individuals and groups to plan a national protest against President Bola Tinubu's administration.
The forum urged the organizers to reconsider and reverse their course, stating that such a decision would currently be detrimental to the nation's progress and counterproductive.
Alhaji Saleh Mandung Zazzaga, the forum's chairman, told reporters on Monday in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, that those advocating for the protest should first assess the circumstances in the nation and use good judgment before making any decisions.
Zazzaga stated that instead of diverting the administration's attention with pointless protests, President Tinubu was making every effort to put the nation back on the path of progress and urged Nigerians to support him in this endeavor.
He claimed that those organizing the protest were not doing so for the love of the nation or its advancement, but rather for their own self-interest and to gain quick political points.
He also said that many of them were being funded by adversaries of the state and the administration. In the meantime, the chairman forcibly forbade the demonstrators from considering holding the demonstration in the North Central region due to the problems that the area is currently facing.
He claims that the president is working nonstop to find solutions to the security issues facing the North and the region as a whole. Therefore, thugs can hijack any protest in the area to wreak havoc and endanger the lives and property of law-abiding citizens, the speaker declared.
"The region cannot afford to have another unrest added to the already overwhelming problem of kidnappings, banditry, and other criminal activities the region has experienced over the years.
Furthermore, protests in the North and some parts of the region frequently take on an ethnic and religious component, which has also led to killings between Muslims and Christians.
"The #EndSARS protest nationwide, which took on a significant dimension in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, is an example of a protest that frequently degenerates into violence and becomes embroiled in an ethno-religious crisis. We must take significant action to contain it.
"I went around calming people down to stop the violence with other prominent people in Jos. We made sure that Christians were protected in Muslim areas and vice versa. After that, we gave those who were safe from harm to the police so they could be safely reunited with their families.
Therefore, I urge all of our members in the region to get mobilized and actively oppose any kind of protest. In addition, I implore the governors, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and other notable figures in the North Central region to summon all of their wards to order and counsel them against taking part in any kind of protest because of the unique circumstances in our region.
