According to report, the legal battle between the suspended chief Oba Ewuare II, known as the Enigies and the Oba of Benin at the Edo State High Court suffered setback on Monday following transfer of the presiding judge.
The suspended chiefs are challenging the authority of the Oba of Benin to suspend them.
Journalists were barred from entry into the court room but according to counsel for the defendant, Samson Osagie, the new judge handling the suit adjourned the case to October 17 for hearing of the matter afresh.
In order to prevent people from entering the court, a massive contingent of Nigerian police officers blocked the court's gate and closed the roads leading up to it.
A few chiefs of Benin Palace who were barred from entering the courtroom denounced the police's actions.
Due to suspected insubordination, the Oba of Benin Oba Ewuare II had suspended some chiefs.
