Meet The First African Player to Win 5 Premier League Titles

Riyad Mahrez was the first African player to win five Premier League titles.

Mahrez's journey to this remarkable achievement began with Leicester City's fairy tale 2015/2016 season, where he played a pivotal role in their unexpected championship win.

His subsequent transfer to Manchester City in 2018 marked the beginning of an era of dominance, with Mahrez contributing to the club's successes in the 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, and 2022/2023 seasons.

Mahrez began his professional journey as a youth player for the French club side, AAS Sarcelles.

He turned professional in 2009 with Quimper, where he had a brief stint before transferring to Le Havre.

Spending a total of three years with the latter, he initially featured in their reserve squad and eventually earned a spot in the first team.

In January 2014, Mahrez inked a deal with the English side Leicester City.

He contributed to the club's triumph in the Championship and subsequent promotion to the Premier League within the first season.

During the 2015/2016 season, he received accolades such as the Algerian Footballer of the Year Award and the PFA Players' Player of the Year Award.

Additionally, he secured a spot in the Premier League PFA Team of the Year while aiding Leicester City in clinching the Premier League title.

Subsequently, Mahrez joined Manchester City in 2018, where he claimed the Premier League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup in his debut season.

His professional achievements expanded to include four additional league titles, one FA Cup, two EFL Cups, and a UEFA Champions League victory in 2022/2023.

Born in France, Mahrez debuted internationally for Algeria in 2014.

He competed for Algeria in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and participated in the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023, with a victory in the 2019 championship.

In 2016, he was won the CAF's African Footballer of the Year Award.

Mahrez currently plays for Saudi Pro League club side, Al-Ahli.
