Surviving students of Saint Academy in Jos, Plateau State, have shared chilling experiences of the building collapse that occurred on Friday which resulted in the loss of their classmates and friends.
According to the report by Newsmen, the state Commissioner for Information, Musa Ashoms, the tragic incident has left 22 dead and 154 injured.
He gave the assurance that a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse is underway.
Speaking to newsmen, an SS2 student recalled that she was in the class when one of the students came to tell them that a teacher was calling them to join the next class. The student said that as they were about to leave, that was when the building collapsed.
Also speaking about the horrible incident, another SS2 student said that she was in the class with other students and their teacher when they started hearing sounds from the building.
She said that they did not know what the sound was all about, and when some of the students tried to run, they could not.
Speaking further, she said that her head was on the table when the building began to cave in. She said that she and other students were under the table for several hours before help came for them.
She said, "We didn't know what the noise was all about. Some of my classmates wanted to run, but they could not. Some people even went under the table.
"My head was on my table, and suddenly the building caved in. We were under the rubble for hours before we were rescued, while some students died."
