Chairman, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Edo branch, Mr Chris Oisakede, has warned shisha smokers to desist from the act due to its inherent dangers.
Oisakede, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Benin, described smoking of shisha as not only a drug abuse but also a silent killer.
"The earlier the government tackles the issue of drug abuse, the better for all of us.
"It's a social menace and burden to some families. Some very rich families are contending with their children constantly on drugs, trying to take them off the addiction," he said.
According to him, shisha contains hard drugs which can lead to addiction, noting that ladies are more into the act.
"Yes, they will tell you what they are taking is shisha, but to the unsuspecting ladies don't know that they are gradually getting addicted to hard drugs.
"It will get to a time that if they don't take shisha, they will not be normal, as addiction must have set in," he said.
The PSN chairman said that through sharing of Shisha rope, diseases, such as hepatitis and other viral ones, could be transmitted.
