The county prosecutor for Butler, Pennsylvania, has confirmed that two persons were killed in a shooting incident that occurred at a rally held by former President of the United States, Donald Trump.
Reports indicate that one of those killed is the individual who fired shots at Trump.
The incident occurred shortly after Trump began speaking at the Butler Farm Show grounds. Gunfire rang out, and the former President was rushed off stage by Secret Service agents.
Up to five shots were heard from the video of the incident and Trump was seen being led away with apparent blood on his head.
Before the gunfire, the former president had criticized the previous administration, saying, "And then the worst president in the history of our country took over. And look what happened to our country. Probably 20 million people [came in illegally]." He also referenced a chart, saying, "That chart's a couple of months old. And if you want to really see something that sad, take a look at what happened over..."
Meanwhile, the Secret Service said it has promptly implemented protective measures, ensuring Trump's safety. Spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi confirmed the incident and announced an ongoing investigation.
"The Secret Service has implemented protective measures, and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation, and further information will be released when available."
Trump's communication director, Steven Cheung, also assured the public that the former President is unharmed and receiving medical attention as a precaution.
"President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act," Cheung said. "He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility."
