Rain grounds Lagos

Lagosians were greeted with a heavy downpour on Wednesday morning as it rained heavily in different areas of the state.

The rain which started in the middle of the night refused to abate, preventing workers and students from leaving their homes.

It was the same story in areas like Oshodi, Ikotun, Bariga, Surulere and Iyana Ipaja on the Mainland with those on the also not spared.

A check on social media, especially X showed that a lot of people in Lagos State felt the impact of the heavy downpour with some complaining of flood.

"Iyana-Oworo, Olopo meji area heading to 3rd Mainland Bridge this morning is completely flooded, causing long traffic that extends to Alapere," Gidi Traffic wrote on X.

"Apapa Oworonshoki Expressway is the same with the rain very heavy," Lord Scummander reported.

"Abort all trips across third Mainland Bridge," Raymond advised motorists and Lagosians.

"Traffic that has reached Berger.
Coming out of CMD road 30mins ago, I pity anybody going to the Island this morning," Delightsome Oye wrote.

"The highway drainage is blocked
It didn't happen overnight, it's a gradual process that reeks of next to zero maintenance," Seun Alaran wrote on X.

"Ironically, the same is starting to happen on the newly renovated Third Mainland Bridge.

"We are starting to see little pools of water gather on the two outer lanes of the road due to the ineffective drainage system. Particularly between the Yaba exit inward Lagos Island.

"If the drainage outlets aren't cleared, the bridge would start to experience flooding."
