Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has undergone traditional spiritual treatment as he prepares for next season.
The Croydon-born defender was seen being attended to by a traditional medic who held a white towel over his head before wrapping him with the towel.
While there have been speculations on the meaning and significance of the treatment, it is understood it has nothing to do with spiritism but a traditional spa treatment common in some traditional African settings and parts of America.
Rooted in folk medicine, the treatment aims to detoxify the player and enable a relaxation of the body and mind. This is achieved when the towel, treated with selected herbs and steam, is wrapped on one's head to aid inhalation of the herbs.
After a gruelling campaign with Manchester United last season, Wan-Bissaka must have opted for the traditional therapy to get himself back in gear as he prepares for the next campaign.
The 24-year-old made 22 Premier League, 3 Champions League, and one EFL Cup appearance for Manchester United last term. He has a year left on his United contract and has been linked to a possible exit from the club this summer.
