Bolivian police have arrested General Juan José Zúñiga, who staged a failed coup attempt on Wednesday.
Zúñiga, who commanded the South American country's army, had stormed the presidential palace in the capital La Paz with armed soldiers on Wednesday.
He was being forced into a police car outside a military barracks to be taken to the prosecutor's office.
According to Reuters, the chief prosecutor's office will launch a criminal investigation against him and other participants for the attempted coup.
Bolivian President Luis Arce gave a televised statement to denounce the attempted coup.
Arce also warned of "irregular military mobilizations".
"Today the country once again faces interests so that democracy in Bolivia is truncated.
"We need Bolivian people to organize and mobilize against the coup," Arce said.
