An England fan who dozed off during the team's draw with Slovenia on Wednesday night revealed that he was dreaming of his side winning the Euros before being abruptly awakened by boos at the final whistle.
Freddie Hahn, a 32-year-old pensions manager from Crawley, was photographed slumped in his seat, asleep, as the Three Lions laboured to a 0-0 draw in Cologne.
Capturing the mood of the nation, Hahn decided a nap was preferable to watching the lackluster performance unfold.
"It was a very dull game, there wasn't much going on, and I thought I was better off asleep," Hahn told MailOnline. "There was a lot of booing at the end, and that woke me up. I was actually having a nice dream about England winning the tournament, but I woke up to the nightmare of England's performance."
Hahn, who spent £500 on travel and accommodation for a three-day trip with two friends, disclosed that he paid 30 Euros for his ticket. He attended the match with friends from Crawley Devils, a team he manages in Southgate's hometown of Southgate.
"We actually attended the same secondary school," Hahn said. "I didn't boo Southgate when I woke up because he's from the same place as me, and I didn't want to be too harsh on him. But to be honest, I could probably do a better job than him. If I get the Crawley Devils promoted, who knows, England might come calling."
The match saw England manager Gareth Southgate booed and pelted with plastic beer cups by a section of disgruntled fans.
In the stands, WAGs consoled their disappointed partners as the team failed to deliver a spirited performance.
The nation now hopes Southgate's side can reignite the feel-good factor in Sunday's last 16 match. As Group C winners, England will avoid facing Germany, Spain, and France until the final, giving fans a glimmer of hope for a better outcome.
