Euro 2024: All you need to know about Turkey vs Portugal match

Turkey vs Portugal match

Turkey and Portugal will face off in their second Group F encounter at Euro 2024 on Saturday by 5pm.

Both teams are on a high after winning their first games, with Turkey beating Georgia 3-1 and Portugal upsetting Czechia 2-1.

Portugal's Roberto Martinez may make several changes to his team.

Diogo Jota and Francisco Conceicao, who played crucial roles as replacements in the previous game, are vying for additional minutes.

Conceicao scored the winner in stoppage time, assisted by Pedro Neto but Jota's goal was disallowed for offside. If changes are made, Rafael Leao may be the one to make way.

Despite a quiet first encounter, Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to lead the charge again.

Martinez might also change his defense, possibly bringing in Goncalo Inacio to allow Nuno Mendes to play more forward.

Turkey, headed by Vincenzo Montella, too has a formidable squad. Arda Guler of Real Madrid, who scored a fantastic goal against Georgia, will be vital once again.

Baris Alper Yilmaz is anticipated to remain up front, while Hakan Calhanoglu will lead the team from the middle.

Turkey has no injury worries and might field an unchanged lineup. A victory here would put them in the knockout stages for the first time since 2008.

Speaking ahead of the match, Vincenzo Montella, Türkiye coach said: "We must focus on our identity and strengths. We need to undermine their strong points by being patient and staying compact.

"Our players can transition between the lines really well. We must keep the ball because when Portugal's opponents control possession more, they become uncomfortable and find it difficult to play."

In the same light, Roberto Martínez, Portugal coach shared: "This game is crucial for us to progress, to create competitiveness in the dressing room, to grow.

"We need to have a clear idea of how to stop Türkiye, but we also need to be ourselves. We need to control the game, create width.

"I think the Georgia game demonstrated that Türkiye can defend, but also attack. The third goal encapsulated Türkiye's personality and attitude."

The match promises to be interesting, as both sides compete for a spot in the next round.

It will be broadcast on GOtv and DStv. On GOtv channel 61, and DStv channels 222 and 225, respectively.
