According to multiple reports, Chelsea has genuine interest in Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino.
The 19-year-old Argentine defender is highly rated in his country, and the Blues are currently exploring a £13.4 million deal to sign him.
Anselmino is a versatile teenager that is capable of playing in defense and also midfield.
It is understandable that Chelsea would want to sign a defender this summer, especially due to the fact that Thiago Silva left.
However, they do not need to sign Anselmino. They have an academy player that is just as good as Anselmino.
The Academy player's name is Ishe Samuels-Smith.
Chelsea signed Ishe Samuels-Smith for £4m last summer as a highly rated 17-year-old from Everton.
Although he has not played for the first team yet, Ishe can reach and surpass the level Anselmino currently is if he is given more first team game time.
As for a direct replacement for Thiago Silva, Chelsea should go for already established young defenders, and not a 19-year-old.
But if they need a defensive understudy in the first team, Ishe-Samuels-Smith or Bashir Humphreys can fill that role easily, and they would not need to spend £13.4 million on another South-American kid.
