EU Issues Stern Warning to Hezbollah After Threat to Target Cyprus

The European Union has issued a strong warning to Hezbollah, stating that any threat to its member state Cyprus will be considered a threat to the entire EU. This comes after the leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, threatened that Cyprus would become a target if it allows Israeli military planes to launch missions from the island.

In a statement, Peter Stano, a spokesperson for the EU's foreign policy branch, told reporters that the union will stand behind its member state Cyprus in the face of all threats. "Any threat to Cyprus is a threat to the EU," Stano said, emphasizing the EU's unwavering support for its member.

The tensions on the Lebanon-Israel border have been escalating in recent weeks, with Israel approving operational plans to escalate its military action against Hezbollah. The two sides have been engaged in near-daily exchanges of fire since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October.

Nasrallah's threat to Cyprus was seen as a response to Israel's increased military presence in the region. The Hezbollah leader warned that the group would not hesitate to target the island if it becomes a launching pad for Israeli attacks.

The EU's strong stance in defense of Cyprus underscores the union's commitment to protecting its member states and their territorial integrity. The statement also serves as a clear warning to Hezbollah and other groups that may attempt to threaten the security of EU member states.
