Bayern Munich has set a €50 million (£42 million) price tag for Matthijs de Ligt, amid interest from Manchester United, as reported by Metro.
United, prioritizing a new centre-back following Raphael Varane's exit, has turned their attention to de Ligt after encountering difficulties in acquiring Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite.
Everton rejected United's initial £45 million bid for the 21-year-old Branthwaite, insisting on a fee exceeding £70 million.
This impasse has led United to explore alternative options, with de Ligt emerging as a key candidate.
Sky Germany reports that Manchester United has commenced internal discussions regarding a potential move for de Ligt.
The Dutch defender, who previously worked with Erik ten Hag at Ajax, joined Bayern Munich from Ajax for €77 million (£65.6 million) in July 2022.
However, de Ligt's recent season with Bayern was marred by injuries, limiting him to just 16 Bundesliga starts.
Currently, de Ligt is focused on international duties with the Netherlands, preparing for their Euro 2024 opener against Poland.
The Dutch team will also face France and Austria in Group D.
When asked about his future amidst transfer speculations, de Ligt said, "I've already said this is not the time for me to think about it.
We're playing at the Euros now and that's very important for me and the national team. For now, I'm focused on the Euros and then we'll see what happens."
