United are working tirelessly to improve their defense before the start of next season and could enter talks to sign one of Bayern Munich stars.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made signing a new centre-back one of his major priorities this summer after series of horrible defensive displays from his side last season.
The club have been linked with Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton, but while some reports have claimed that personal terms has been agreed with the player, United still faces the issue of matching Everton's £70m asking price for the star.
As regards to that, Sky Sports Germany has claimed that Manchester United are closely monitoring 24-year-old Bayern Munich and Netherlands centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.
The former Ajax man has had a difficult time since moving to Bayern from Italian Serie A side Juventus. He has failed to cement a regular playing position in the starting VI and could leave the German Bundesliga side this summer should a tempting offer be made for him.
However, Man Utd will only push further for a deal for De Ligt if their effort to sign Jarrad Branthwaite proves unproductive, as the Everton man is considered as a major target.
Branthwaite and De Ligt are top players, either of them will surely improve this Man Utd side.
However, should the club succeed in signing De Ligt, he would be replacing Raphael Varane who left the club this summer as a free agent.
This deal is one to watch out for.
