According to report, Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State addressed the pressing issue of political office holders' salaries during a special edition of The Platform event organized by The Covenant Nation in Lagos State. He emphasized the necessity for elected officials in Nigeria to experience the challenges faced by ordinary workers by receiving a minimum wage.
Furthermore, in his speech, Governor Soludo highlighted the economic struggles of Nigeria, describing the country as "very poor and broke." He criticized the lavish lifestyles of government officials, stating that they do not reflect the true economic situation of the nation. Governor Soludo endorsed the suggestion made by Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka that governors should also earn the minimum wage to connect with the hardships faced by the populace.
It was reported that, to address the ongoing disagreement over the proposed minimum wage between the government and labor unions, Governor Soludo proposed a new code of conduct for elected officials to promote fiscal responsibility.
Just as it was reported, he shared sobering statistics about the limited revenue available to provide essential services and infrastructure for Nigerian citizens, urging government officials to be mindful of their spending decisions and the impact on the welfare of the populace. Governor Soludo has revealed his personal commitment to fiscal prudence by donating his salary to the state of Anambra since taking office.
