Zamalek forward Samson Olanrewaju Akinyoola has accused the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of blocking his chance to play for the Benin Republic against the Super Eagles in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers.
Akinyoola, who was born to Nigerian parents but has represented Benin Republic at the U20 level, was expected to make his debut for the senior team in the World Cup qualifiers. However, he was surprisingly left out of the squad for both games against Rwanda and Nigeria, sparking rumors of eligibility issues.
A source close to the player has revealed that Akinyoola is furious with the NFF, accusing them of interfering with his chances of playing for Benin Republic. "Somebody in the NFF is behind this and it's not fair. Samson represented Benin Republic in 2019 at U20 level without any issues, so why can't he play now at senior level?" the source queried.
Akinyoola himself has expressed his disappointment and anger, feeling robbed of the opportunity to help his team in their World Cup dreams. "I'm very angry and feel I've been robbed of the chance to play for Benin Republic. But it hasn't ended, and I will do everything in my power to prove that I'm eligible to play for Benin Republic," he vowed.
