Chris Onyeka, the Assistant General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has reaffirmed the organization's stance on a minimum wage of ₦250,000. According to Channels Television, Onyeka made it clear that the NLC has never considered accepting ₦100,000 or ₦62,000, underscoring that ₦250,000 is the minimum acceptable amount.
He explained that this demand is based on the severe economic challenges faced by workers, including the high prices of basic necessities like rice, yam, and garri. The NLC's firm position puts pressure on the government and social partners to meet their demands.

Onyeka remarked, "We have never contemplated N100,000, let alone N62,000. We are still at ₦250,000; that is where we are, and that is what we considered enough concession to the government and the other social partners in this particular situation. We are not just driven by frivolities but by the realities of the market place; realities of things we buy every day: bags of rice, yam, garri, and all of that."
