Wale Edun did not propose N105,000 as minimum wage - Presidency

According to Newsmen, the Presidency has vehemently refuted claims suggesting that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, put forth a proposal of N105,000 as the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

Reports circulated, citing The Punch's reference to Western Post, purportedly indicating a proposed minimum wage of N105,000 (approximately $220) per month for Nigerian workers. However, the said story is presently absent from the Western Post's portal.

Earlier in the day, Edun had submitted a minimum wage proposal to President Bola Tinubu, although the specifics of the proposal have not been disclosed to the public.

The widespread dissemination of the report claiming that the Federal Government is advocating for a N105,000 minimum wage has stirred controversy.

In response, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, took to X to debunk the circulating story as false, stating, "The Honorable Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun has not proposed N105,000 minimum wage. The contrary story being disseminated is false."

Earlier, Edun had submitted the minimum wage proposal template to the president, successfully meeting the 48-hour deadline stipulated by the president for the submission of the proposal.
