Nigeria vs South Africa: Confusion in Finidi George's camp as Amokachi turns down NFF

Finidi George's preparation for Nigeria's World Cup qualifier against South Africa has been far from ideal.

There is confusion in the Super Eagles camp ahead of Nigeria's World Cup qualifier against South Africa after Daniel Amokachi reportedly turned down the Nigeria Football Federation's  (NFF) offer.

Amokachi is expected to serve as an assistant under Finidi George, who is set for his first competitive game as the manager of the Super Eagles.

However, there are doubts whether Amokachi will take his place on the bench when the Super Eagles take on the Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Friday night.

According to Oga Nla Media, Amokachi has reportedly turned down NFF's offer as he is not satisfied with the terms of the contract.

Reports claim that unlike Finidi, who will receive a monthly wage, Amokachi and the rest of the backroom staff will be paid on a game-by-game basis.

However, Amokachi is not willing to agree to the terms and has turned down NFF's offer. It remains to be seen if the former Everton man will still stake his place on the bench, but the distraction is not what Finidi needs as he prepares for his first competitive match as Super Eagles boss.

The former Real Betis star's preparation has already been hampered by the late arrivals of some key players due to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) strike earlier this week.

Nonetheless, Finidi will be looking to start off his competitive debut as Super Eagles boss on a winning note.

The match against South Africa is a must-win for the three-time African champions. Nigeria currently sit in third place in their qualifying group, two points behind leaders Rwanda and one behind Friday's opponents.
