Cole Palmer has explained why he proudly displays two national team flags on his football boots.

The 22-year-old winger, who was Chelsea's standout performer last season following his £42.5 million move from Manchester City, will likely feature at this summer's European Championship.

Gareth Southgate selected Palmer in his provisional 33-man squad and on Monday, he repaid his manager's faith by scoring against Bosnia on his first start for the Three Lions.

"It's a great feeling, the first goal for your country," he said after the game. "Tonight probably wasn't my best game, it has been a long season. I'm just trying to find my feet, it is my first start for England so hopefully I can go to Germany."

Palmer will be hoping to build on that performance in the coming weeks whilst wearing a pair of boots that feature both the England and Saint Kitts and Nevis flag.

Palmer has previously explained his decision to wear the St. Kitts and Nevis flag on his feet during games.

Speaking to The Players' Tribune about his father, the winger said: "He used to say, 'No point trying to shoot if you can't keep hold of the ball in the first place.'

"We would do that every single day whatever the weather - and my dad's family is from St. Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean. He hates going out in the cold. But he'd do it for me anyway.

"That's why I got the St Kitts flag on my boots, as a little tribute to him and his family."

Palmer grew up in South Manchester after his grandfather, Sterry Cole, left St. Kitts and Nevis in 1960 to start a new life in England, and clearly his heritage serves as a big influence on his identity.

Cole's father, Jermaine, recently gave an insight into how popular his son is in St. Kitts and Nevis.

"I went over for the first time in January and it was great," he told The Telegraph.

"Speaking to my dad's cousins who are still over there they said the island is going crazy about Cole. So when he does go himself he's probably going to need a police escort! They're all Chelsea fans over there now!"
