Manchester United have confirmed that they are in talks with Nigerian attacking midfielder Shola Shoretire over a new deal, according to All Nigeria Soccer. Shoretire's current contract is set to expire on July 1, 2024, and he will leave as a free agent if a new deal is not agreed upon.
However, Manchester United will be due compensation if he leaves this summer as he was offered a new contract and is an U24 player. This means that the club will receive a fee for his services if he decides to move on.
Shoretire has made five appearances for United's first team and spent the second half of the 2022-2023 campaign on loan at Bolton Wanderers. Despite his limited appearances, he has shown great promise and potential, and the club is keen to keep him.
The 20-year-old has had a successful season with Manchester United U21s, registering thirteen goal involvements in twelve appearances across all competitions. He also won the Premier League 2 Goal of the Season award for his stunning strike against Chelsea in January.
Shoretire is seeking to play first team football on a regular basis, be it at Manchester United or elsewhere. He last figured for the Manchester United teams in January 2024 amid speculation surrounding his future.
As Manchester United's youngest-ever player in European competition, Shoretire has already made history at the club. Now, he is looking to take his career to the next level and become a regular starter for the Red Devils.
