According to report, The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken decisive action by shutting down an illegal alcohol factory operating in Badagry, Lagos State.
In a statement shared on its official handle @NafdacAgency, the regulatory agency revealed that the illegal factory was dismantled with the assistance of the Nigerian Army's 15 Field Engineering Regiment in Badagry.
According to the statement, one Chinedu Okafor, who was operating the illicit factory from his residence, was apprehended, and products with a street value of N50 million were confiscated.
"Mr. Okafor's suspicious activities attracted the attention of the Nigerian Army, leading to his arrest and subsequent handover to NAFDAC officers at the Ports Inspection Directorate, Seme Border," the statement read.
Upon thorough inspection, NAFDAC officers removed all equipment and materials used in the production of illicit drinks, effectively halting the operations of the illegal factory.
Further investigations revealed Mr. Okafor's extensive involvement in this criminal activity, posing a significant risk to the integrity of regulated alcohol drinks in the Badagry area.
NAFDAC stressed the importance of public vigilance and urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to protect public health.
Mr. Okafor will face prosecution, and all confiscated products, valued at over ₦50,000,000, will be destroyed to prevent their circulation in the market.
