The Federal Government has assured workers in the country that the implementation of the new national minimum would still take effect from May 1, 2024.

According to information obtain by The Nation, Mrs Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, made the guarantee during the May Day celebrations in Abuja on Wednesday.

The theme for the 2024 May Day celebration is 'People First'.

Onyejeocha reminded that on January 30, 2024, the Federal Government took a significant step toward improving the welfare of Nigerian workers by establishing a 37-member Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage, as reported by newsmen.

According to her, this committee was charged with the vital job of recommending a realistic national minimum wage that is consistent with our current economic scenario.

"Since then, the committee has worked tirelessly with Labour leaders to reach an agreement on a new National Minimum Wage that reflects the country's economic realities."
