Finidi and the Super Eagles
Finidi George previously served as an assistant to José Santos Peseiro and took over as interim coach for two friendly matches in Morocco last month.
His team secured a convincing 2-1 victory against Ghana, ending an 18-year winless streak against the Black Stars, but suffered a 0-2 defeat against Mali in the second friendly game.
The Enyimba coach was a member of Nigeria's 'Golden Generation,' with 62 caps for Nigeria, including appearances in the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cup finals. He has an illustrious playing career.
Additionally, he holds medals from the Africa Cup of Nations tournaments in 1992, 1994, 2000, and 2002.
As a player, he scored the goal that secured Nigeria's qualification for their FIFA World Cup debut in 1994. Moreover, he assisted Rashidi Yekini in scoring Nigeria's first-ever World Cup goal against Bulgaria in the same tournament.
His immediate focus will be on guiding the Super Eagles to victory in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and the Benin Republic.
Nigeria is currently in third place in Group C. These matches are crucial, and George will aim to lead the team to success in these must-win encounters.
