Afrobeats sensation, David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, found himself embroiled in controversy as he clashed with music producer, Napji over alleged unpaid royalties.
The drama ensued on April 23rd, 2024, when Napji took to Instagram and X to accuse Davido of withholding payment for his work on the tracks, "Fem," "Jowo," and "Sunlight" from the 2020 album "A Better Time."
Napji's claims detailed that he had only received an advance of N500k for each song, amounting to N1.5 million.
However, he asserted his rights to royalties and publishing credits, directing his demands squarely at Davido by tagging him in the Instagram post.
He vowed to share more details as he pursued what he believed to be owed to him in terms of compensation.
He wrote:
"I am Napji, producer behind Fem, Jowo and sunlight on @davido album (A better time).Which was released 13th November 2020."
"I was paid an advance of 500 thousand naira for each of the songs. I will be releasing more information as I seek to collect my royalties & publishing".
Upon seeing Napji's public call-out, Davido swiftly responded on his verified Instagram and Twitter accounts with a curt dismissal, simply stating,
"Ur Papa."
