Exciting WrestleMania 40 Recap: The Rock Impresses in Comeback, Three New Champions, and Rhea Ripley Shines

WrestleMania 40 RESULTS: The Rock exceeds expectations after over a decade out of the ring, three new champions crowned and Rhea Ripley makes a statement

WrestleMania 40 has been labelled the biggest WrestleMania of all-time by WWE and the company made a pretty good start to honouring that notion in Philadelphia on Saturday night.

We saw new champions, Rhea Ripley cement herself as one of the biggest stars of this era and, of course, what will be viewed as a legendary tag team main event.

Over 73,000 packed into the Lincoln Financial Field Stadium to witness the action and a lot of the action in the main event has ramifications for tomorrow night.

Let's get into the full results:

RAW Women's Championship: Rhea Ripley (c) def. Becky Lynch

Rhea Ripley has arrived as a true superstar in WWE and proved it in her opener

The Man is arguably the greatest woman to ever lace her boots in WWE, but this match was a testament to the idea that now it's Rhea Ripley's time.

The Aussie, complete with a special entrance by Motionless in White, seized her opportunity to open the show with a bang as she battled a foe who had been legitimately sick all week long.

Lynch gave as good as she got the entire affair, but an irrepressible Ripley finally landed a monstrous Rip Tide to secure the 1-2-3.

Undisputed Tag Team Championships: Judgement Day (c) vs DIY vs New Day, vs New Catch Republic vs Awesome Truth vs Austin Theory and Grayson Waller

Over a decade after their original fruitless union, Awesome Truth strike tag team gold

This match strayed from the norm as it required both sets of belts hanging above the ring with both separately on the line.

Out of almost nowhere, Theory and Waller won the SmackDown belts before R-Truth, who was the star of the show with his needless hot tag and pinfall, grabbed the RAW straps for his team.

There was several jaw-dropping moments in this match. JD McDonagh was sent through a table from the top of the ladder on the outside, Johnny Gargano DDT'd Tyler Bate through a table from the apron and Tommaso Ciampa delivered an Air Raid from the top of the ladder, too.

Rey Mysterio & Andrade def. Santos Escobar & Dominik Mysterio

Not many people would have had Travis Kelche helping out Rey Mysterio on their bingo cards!

For the second year in a row, Rey Mysterio got the win over his son Dominik, but this time he had some unexpected help.

Philadelphia Eagle legend Jason Kelche and Lane Johnson showed up during the final stretch to clear the way for the good guys to win. Mysterio hit his famous 619 on both Escobar and Dom before nailing a Frog Splash to get the win.

Worth noting that Andrade had a spectacular showing in his first spotlighted moment since returning to WWE. Joaquin Wilde also got his own WrestleMania shine with a long-range, albeit rope assisted, splash

Jey Uso def. Jimmy Uso

Jimmy Uso coming off the top rope against his brother Jey, but he would end up losing

The Usos became the third set of brothers to compete at WrestleMania against each other in its 40-year history, but it was the first time twins had ever faced off.

Jey got the victory after controlling the vast majority of the affair, save for another moment of betrayal where Jimmy suckered him in for a reunion only to stab him in the back once more.

A spear and splash from the top rope sealed the deal for Main Event Jey, but it was far from the classic they would have dreamt off.

Bianca Belair, Naomi and Jade Cargill def. Damage CTRL

It should come as no surprise that Jade Cargill's WWE and WrestleMania debut ended with her scoring the pinfall for the win.

Damage CTRL - Dakota Kai, Asuka and Kairi Sane - rarely had control in the contest and it was certainly a showcase for the good guys.

Everyone nailed their finishers before Cargill hit Jaded to get the win. Belair and Cargill pumped each other up after the bell - their futures are going to be tied together one way or another.

Intercontinental title: Sami Zayn def. Gunther

Sami Zayn is the man who gets the honour of ending Gunther's record-breaking run

Unbelievably, Sami Zayn is the man to end Gunther's extraordinary 667 day reign as Intercontinental champion.

Precious few fans and even less bookmakers predicted that Zayn would be the man to get the job done, but once we saw him getting a pep talk from his wife and son followed by Chad Gable and Kevin Owens, the picture began to form.

Gunther delivered several powerbombs and splashes from the top rope in addition to his fabled chops, but Zayn refused to give in. Once Gunther got cocky, Zayn managed to capitalise in the ultimate way. Given this angle wasn't the hottest, it was a magic WrestleMania moment.

The Rock and Roman Reigns def. Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins

The Rock and Roman Reigns won, but their weekend is not over by a long stretch

WWE sure produced this match like the star-studded affair that it was. All four men fully soaked in the atmosphere before ever getting physical.

But when the time came to fight, any concern about The Rock stepping back inside the ropes dissipated. It was a back and forth contest until Roman Reigns swept Seth Rollins on the apron causing him to re-injure his bad knee.

Rhodes and Rollins had Reigns beat, but The Rock gave a look at what Bloodline rules could look like by whipping the ref out of the ring before he could make the count.

Then the match kicked into top gear. Roman Reigns accidentally speared The Rock, Rhodes and Rollins hit stereo Pedigrees on Rock and Reigns before Rhodes Rock Bottomed The Rock through a table and Reigns speared Rollins through the barricade!

The Rock turned the tide again by whipping Rhodes with his belt when he had Reigns beat. What followed was a Rock Bottom and People's Elbow and a victory to savour for The Great One.
