During a media briefing, Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), outlined the motivations behind the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly's actions against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Wike stated that the governor perceives the honorable members as his loyalists. Despite Wike's support, including purchasing forms for the honorable members during the 2014 and 2019 elections and promoting Rivers' electoral success, he emphasized that he always regarded them as deserving individuals.
He asserted, "I'm telling you, I was the one in 2014/2015; I sponsored the election of everybody; in 2019, the same thing happened. You saw the fight I had with the federal government; you don't have any fights with the federal government, so what is the problem? They cannot have a good relationship with just assembly members, and every time they say, Wike, Wike; okay, what is it with that Wike that's making him hold this assembly? What is that? Tell me. That's why we normally say, 'if he didn't they, he didn't they'. If you don't know what to do, you don't know what to do, and you begin to call Wike every day."
