Bello El-Rufai, a member of the Federal House of Representatives and son of the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has disclosed that he refused to accept the SUV that was reportedly given to Nigerian lawmakers in 2023. El-Rufai made this disclosure during a chat with Seun Okinbaloye.
Torizone had earlier reported that the leadership of the National Assembly made a purchase of imported Sports Utility Vehicles for each lawmaker in Nigeria as well as bulletproof vehicles for the principal officers; a development which received numerous criticisms by Nigerians.
However, in a recent interview, Bello El-Rufai, a lawmaker representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the 10th National Assembly has disclosed that some of his colleagues, himself included, refused to accept the SUV.
Stating the reason for rejecting the SUV, El-Rufai cited the heavy criticisms from Nigerians, with some citizens lampooning the parliamentarians for being insensitive to the plight of Nigerians amid the economic crisis in the country.
Secondly, El-Rufai stated that he was born into priviledge and he had owned an SUV before he even stepped into politics.
"None of us took those SUVs, for the kind insult wey we chop. Why would I take an SUV, Seun? You just said I am a son of privilege. I have had SUV since I was working with Huawei". -he said.
